Master Foundation Programme

Preparation is key!

If you want to study successfully in Germany, then thorough preparation is key! The foundation programme of PFH Private University of Applied Sciences Göttingen makes your entrance into our study programmes easier.

The programme will prepare you for your chosen study programme both from a language and technical point of view. During the foundation programme, you will undergo (intensive) German language training and at the same time take selected course modules from your chosen course of studies. Thus you will not only be improving your general German language skills but you will also be already learning some of the study content and important technical terms pertaining to your chosen field of study. The programme is marked by intensive individual support from international officers, language trainers and professors in order to ensure that your preparation will be successful.

Who can participate?

The foundation programme is aimed at those prospective students who:

  1. Are interested in studying in German language,
  2. Already hold a university entrance qualification and,
  3. Already have basic German language skills (min A2 level).

Programme structure

In general, the foundation programme starts 12 to 16 months before the official start of the course of studies. At first, you will attend intensive German courses in the preliminary phase of the programme. They will last up to four months, depending on your start date and your German language level:

  • Level A2/B1: Intensive German Course starting in June
  • Level B2: Intensive German Course starting in July
  • Level C1: Intensive German starting in September recommended

Preparation year

During the first semester (October to March) as well as in the second semester (April to September) of the foundation programme, you will attend selected seminars and lectures from your chosen course of studies and you will have the option to already sit exams. If you pass any exams, the credits will be transferred to your course of studies and thus reduce the workload in the following year or even shorten the length of your study time. Parallel to your selected courses and during semester breaks, you will continue learning German in class and further develop your writing skills through short essays on individually assigned topics.

First academic year

Upon successful completion of the foundation year, you will be enrolled into the study programme which starts the following October. If required, you will continue to attend German lessons during the next one or two course semesters. By the end of the first academic year, you must provide the C1 language certificate through TestDaF. You must pass all four test categories (reading comprehension, oral expression, written expression, listening comprehension) at least at level TDN4.
